Liberty Gardens mean...

Better Food: A fresh, right-from-the-soil taste that money just can't buy.

Better Health: There is more nutrition in fresh vegetables and they are grown without chemicals.

Food Security: Enjoy the bounty from your garden even when food is scarce in the market. Each Liberty Garden makes its region more secure.

Higher quality of Life: Liberty gardens create a stronger family, social, and community life, and a healthier, more beautiful natural world.

More Money: Growing a Liberty Garden will ease some of your rising grocery expenditures.

The Chance to leave a Legacy of Hope: In a changing world, the ability to grow food, to share and enjoy it, to live in a healthy world full of beautiful gardens may be the best legacy we can leave for our children and grandchildren.
A movement is underway once again in this country of ours. People are growing their own food, and in some cases attempting to bring back the patriotic Victory Gardens that grew 44% of our food supply during WWII in the 1940s. What with rising food prices, concerns about food safety, and a growing interest in eating local foods, it seems the perfect time to become involved in such a fulfilling neighborhood, and possibly community, activity.

Let's rename these gardens for our time, the 21st century! Let's call them LIBERTY GARDENS. They can again be patriotic in the truest sense of the founding spirit of democracy. By growing some of our own food, we can save the tremendous amounts of the fossil fuels it takes to grow, refrigerate, and transport traditionally grown food. This could help us to become independent from foreign oil. We could also each make a personal choice against global climate change by conserving energy. Furthermore, we could be free to choose whatever delicious or historic varieties of vegetables we would like to eat.

Even more importantly, Liberty Gardens could be a source of great joy and pleasure, security, and stability for families and even entire regions. Our generation could begin to build a legacy that will make our children and grandchildren proud. In a time when we are seeing environmental degradation and economic uncertainty, we can model lifestyles based on the integrity and purity of the natural world and weave gardens that intertwine all the beauty and bounty that is there for us to enjoy and share.
